AMUNIKE community in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State was, on Thursday, thrown into commotion, when a man, identified as Uchechukwu Nweke, allegedly committed suicide, after killing his wife and son.
The 65-year-old deceased, who was a hunter, reportedly shot his wife, Patricia, with a single barrel gun, and set his house ablaze with his 29-year-old son inside.
He later shot himself with the same single barrel gun, THE POINT learnt.
The three victims were reportedly rushed to the Uche Hospital, Isuanocha, by police detectives attached to Achalla Police station, but they were certified dead on arrival.
Though the Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident, sources said the man might have been depressed, owing to frustrations he faced with his job.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Haruna Mohammed, who confirmed the incident, said the corpses of the deceased had been deposited at the hospital’s morgue for autopsy.
Mohammed said, “On 28/1/2021, there was a report from the vigilante chairman Amunike community in Awka North LGA of Anambra State that on the same date at about 3:am, a hunter, one Uchechukwu Nweke ‘m’ aged 65 years, of same address, allegedly shot his wife Patricia Nweke ‘f’ aged 55 years, with a single barrel gun.
“He also burnt his house along with his son named Obinna Nweke, aged 29-years, in circumstances yet to be ascertained.
“Suspect equally shot himself using the same gun.
“Meanwhile, Police detectives attached to Achalla Police station visited the scene and rushed victims to Uche hospital Isuanocha for medical attention where all the three victims were certified dead by a medical doctor on arrival.”
