OVER 35 inmates remanded in police custody in Enugu State have reportedly escaped.
The development has caused panic among residents of the state.
The escapees had been kept in the police cells as a result of congestion at the National Correctional Service in the state, it was gathered.
The fleeing inmates, it was gathered, were mainly those that were remanded by the Magistrate’s Court during the COVID-19 lockdown, and a few others remanded for various other offences.
The suspects reportedly escaped on Sunday night from the police facilities at the State Criminal Investigation Department, at the Enugu Police Headquarters.
The Police had yet to release an official statement on the matter as of the time of filing this report, though sources within the Command said an official statement would be released soon.
