A quarrel over how to share the bride price of a female member of a family has claimed the life of an electrician, identified as Bright Odi, at Umueje Obinze in the Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State.

Odi, 33 years, reportedly died after his brother, one Victor Iwu, allegedly kicked him on the scrotum during a quarrel over the sharing of the bride price of their sister, who got married on Sunday.

Eyewitnesses said Odi fell on the floor after the attack and was rushed to the hospital when it was clear that he was seriously in pain. But he reportedly died the next day.

Iwu, it was learnt, fled the house before angry youths could get there, even when some had argued that Odi’s death was by “mistake”.

“When they (the youths) did not meet him in their family house, they angrily set the house on fire,” an eyewitness said.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, who confirmed the incident, said the Commissioner of Police had ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal and Intelligence Department for further investigation.
