THE Academic Staff Union of Universities has finally agreed to call of its long strike.
The agreement to call off the strike, which had kept students at home for eight months, was reached at a meeting the union leaders held with government officials, led by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, on Friday.
The Federal Government, after months of deadlock, had agreed to increase university staff’s earned allowances from N30bn to N35bn and revitalisation fund from N20bn to N25bn, among other resolutions.
On Friday, however, Government promised to increase the total payment to N70bn.
