A young industrious man in his early 30s, one Nnamdi Ojukwu, native of Okoffia community, in Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, has been reported dead, a day after his appointment as Supervisory Councillor in his area.
Late Ojukwu was found mysteriously dead in his apartment days before his swearing in to the new office.
The Point’s correspondent in Abakaliki gathered that his father, Elder Ojukwu, had experienced the same fate when serving as Supervisory Councillor of the same area.
This year, the Council Chairman, Kenneth Ezeh, appointed Nnamdi Ojukwu, into the same political office his father held until his death.
His death is currently generating mixed feelings among his friends, both within and outside the state, as they called for a thorough investigation into such mysterious deaths in the Ojukwu family.
Consequently, some of his friends took to their facebook pages to express their grief on the sad loss.
Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Leo Oketa, said, “This news is an absolute terror to the heart! Nnamdi, you were to round off a work for me this week. What a brutal world! Good night my dearest friend and schoolmate. You were such a fine breed and a true definition of dedication. Rest In Peace Nna.”
Another friend simply identified as Chidinma, said, “Nnaa moo, so because you were given an ordinary appointment on Monday 26.10.20 as a Supervisory Councillor, Ezza South, that was why some household enemies decided to poison you even before your swearing-in on Tuesday 27.10.20.
“As surely as God, the Supreme Majesty is the Living God, you will rise again and your killers must be exposed and destroyed by the sword, fury and wrath of God before Tuesday next week. That mystery behind your father’s death and yours, must be unravelled because we serve the miracle working and all-knowing God. God is still God and he has never failed or disappointed me.”
George Umeh said, “You have not returned my call. We were together on Sunday till 9pm. The first joke you made to me when you arrived where we were was, ‘George, asukwana oyibo taa’. We all drank except you who took only water.
“On Monday, I called you in the morning, congratulated you on your appointment and we talked about other things. Later in the day, I called again for us to finalise our discussion and you sent me a text thus: I will call you back. Unlike you, you never called back. I concluded that you were busy with work – your duty for which you gave everything you had – time, treasure and talent.
“When I passed your family house in the afternoon, I remembered you. But unlike me too, I didn’t call you back. I said I would have to wait for you to call as you promised.”
He added, “7:27pm, I got a call that you were dead. I said no, that it can’t be true. I left my friends without a word and rushed to the hospital only to see you lying lifeless in the ambulance. I couldn’t comprehend it. I couldn’t get anything that happened. I was dazed. I said we wait till morning.Here is morning and yet, you haven’t woken up.
“Here is morning and you haven’t opened your eyes. Here is morning and you haven’t returned my call. I can’t ask that you rest in peace because it appears there is no peace anywhere. If there were peace; who knows, perhaps, you wouldn’t have died. Ojukwu wake up and return my call!”
Meanwhile, efforts to get the reaction of Ojukwu’s immediate family members and the chairman of his local government, Kenneth Ezeh, were not successful as of the time of filing this report.
