THE Central Bank of Nigeria has denied reports that its website was attacked by a group of hackers, Anonymous, on Friday.

The apex bank also assured all stakeholders that its website was adequately protected.

“Contrary to the claims in the social media alleging that the website of the Central Bank of Nigeria, ww.cbn.gov.ng, has been breached by malicious persons, we wish to state that our website is secure,” CBN Acting Director, Corporate Affairs, Osita Nwanisobi, said in a statement.

He added, “We wish to assure the Nigerian public and indeed all other stakeholders that the CBN website is adequately protected and that there is no cause for alarm.

“We also wish to advise the online community to desist from peddling fake news aimed at undermining the integrity of the CBN, which is our collective asset.”

The CBN’s rebuttal was in reaction to a claim by Anonymous, a group of hackers, known for launching cyberattacks against government institutions, that they have attacked the CBN website.

Some Nigerians, who visited the CBN website claimed it was unstable around the time of this claim, The Point learnt.
