MORE than 24 hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission announced the final results of the October 10, 2020 Governorship Election in Ondo State, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Eyitayo Jegede, has not congratulated the winner of the election, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress.
As of the time of filing this report, there has not been an official congratulatory message from the main opposition PDP candidate, to Akeredolu.
This, analysts said, might be a pointer to the next steps to be taken by the PDP and its candidate, though a court action, according to them, might be far-fetched, considering the wide margin of lead – 97,039 votes.
Akeredolu also won in 15 of the 18 Local Government Areas of the state.
“In Edo, Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the APC congratulated the re-elected Governor, Godwin Obaseki of the PDP, even before the result of the final local government area was announced,” Rasheed Adeyanju, a human rights activist, told The Point.
Meanwhile, the spokesman of the Eyitayo Jegede campaign organisation, Gbenga Akinmoyo, had said in an interview on Channels TV that the team was waiting on God.
He thanked the people of the state for voting their conscience during the polls.
Akeredolu was declared winner of the October 10, 2020 Governorship Election, with a total of 292,830 votes, against the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Eyitayo Jegede, who polled 195,791 votes in total.
The Deputy Governor of the state and candidate of the Zenith Labour Party, Agboola Ajayi, clinched the third position with 69,127 votes.
