Following Paul Le Guen’s rejection of the contractual agreement with the Nigeria Football Federation for the vacant Super Eagles coach job, the executive board of the federation has given the Technical Committee a week deadline to produce another foreign coach.
The NFF executive met in Abuja yesterday to decide on some issues relating to the progress of the federation.
According to a Communique signed by an NFF Executive member, Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande, after the meeting, the federation instructed the Technical and Development Sub–Committee to recommend a candidate for the post of Technical Adviser to the Super Eagles within seven days.
The NFF noted that the refusal of Le Guen, earlier recommended by the Sub–Committee, to accept to be given targets as well as his unwillingness to live in Nigeria, made him unacceptable to the Board.
The Committee also disapproved of Le Guen’s desire to report with two foreign assistants, which would make Nigerian coaches redundant.
The Committee noted that it was the desire to show transparency that made the Technical and Development Sub –Committee to make public its recommendation, in the first place.
The management of the process that led to the recommendation of Le Guen has been scandalous and it was, therefore, not a shock that the NFF had once again bungled another major decision concerning Nigeria football.
The omen was never good, beginning from when chairman of the Technical Committee, Chris Green, walked out on a meeting in Lagos, while insisting that it would be his technical committee that should be saddled with picking a new coach for the country.
The NFF announced that shortlisted candidates would be interviewed on Monday via Skype, but there was nothing as such as they relied on a questionnaire filled by Le Guen to take a decision on his announcement as the preferred candidate for the top post.
This was done inspite of the contractual disputes between the coach and the NFF.
