AN Osun Magistrate’s court, sitting in Osogbo the state capital, on Tuesday, ordered the remand of a 35-year-old man, Femi Michael, for allegedly assaulting a minor sexually.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Adeoye Kayode, told the court that the accused person committed the offence on September 27, 2020 at about 8:00pm at Kolawole Street Esuyale compound, Osogbo.
The prosecutor said the accused person did assault one Rofiyat Akinyemi, five years old, by indecently removing her pant and inserting his finger into her vagina repeatedly.
He alleged that the offence committed by the accused person was contrary to and punishable under Section 249(D),359 and 222 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol ll Law of Osun State 2020
The accused person pleaded not guilty to the allegations slammed against him.
Defence Counsel, K E Nwoke, applied for the bail of the accused person in the most liberal term.
However, the prosecutor opposed the bail application made by the Counsel on the ground that the victim was an infant and because the issue of sexual assault was now rampant in the society.
In his ruling, Magistrate Abayomi Ajala sustained the objection raised by the prosecution and ordered the remand of the accused person in Ilesa correctional center.
He thereby adjourned the matter till October 16 for ruling on a formal bail application.
