… restate call to rejig security
THE Peoples Democratic Party has condemned last Friday’s fresh attack on the convoy of Borno State Governor, Baba Gana Zulum, by insurgents, resulting in the killing of security operatives attached to the governor.
The PDP said the repeated attack on the governor as well as the rising wave of terrorist attacks reinforced apprehension of security compromises and lapses, which underpinned the necessity to immediately
rejig the nation’s security network.
PDP, in a release issued on Sunday and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said it was alarmed by the frightening situation where insurgents now had the temerity of repeated attacks on the armed convoy of a state governor.
It said this highlighted the nightmare being witnessed by ordinary compatriots, as soft targets, in various troubled areas across Nigeria.
The PDP therefore restated its call to President Muhammadu Buhari to heed the call
by well-meaning Nigerians, including the two chambers of the National Assembly, to immediately rejig the nation’s security apparatchik by
replacing his Service Chiefs with fresh hands to effectively confront the security challenges facing Nigeria.
On its part, the African Democratic Congress said the security crisis in the country had assumed a frightening dimension if convoys of state governors, with all the security network, could be attacked so badly that 18 lives were lost.
The party, in a statement on Sunday, said it was high time President Muhammadu Buhari listened to calls for the full re-organisation of the security network in Nigeria, including calls for the sacking of service chiefs.
“What the attack on Governor Zulum’s convoy means to the average Nigerian is that no life is safe in Nigeria, and this is scary,” ADC said.
