NIGERIA Leadership Initiative announced on Saturday, that it would hold its inaugural webinar series, with the theme, “Rebuilding Our National Values System”, on Saturday, October 3, 2020.

The organisation said the theme was important, owing to the fact that there was a growing consensus that Nigeria’s National Values System had broken down and had become a threat to values leadership and national development.

NLI is an international, non-partisan organisation that is registered as a charity in Nigeria and in the United Kingdom.

Its members are highly accomplished Nigerians living at home and in the Diaspora, comprising of leaders (Senior Fellows/Fellows), and emerging leaders (Associates), who are committed to playing a significant role in helping to transform Nigeria, promoting an understanding and appreciation of its foundational values, while also highlighting the importance of values-based leadership and followership.

According to a statement by the organisers of the webinar, so far, NLI has about 400 highly accomplished members in its network, including former and serving members of the Federal Executive Council, Chief Executive Officers of MDAs and private corporations, in and outside Nigeria.

The statement, co-signed by the Chairman, Organising Committee of the event, Bashir Ibrahim; and Founder, NLI, Olusegun Aganga, said, “History has shown that the most successful companies and countries in the world are built on a set of core values. These become the foundation on which the nation is built. We cannot achieve sustainable economic growth and development unless we build on a solid foundation and develop community-spirited Nigerians who live these values. It is an investment in our greatest asset- Our People.

“The webinar would, among others, reference our history, enunciate and understand the values we had as Nigerians (during a nostalgic period commonly referred to as our “golden era”), examine our current situation (by identifying when our values system derailed, allowing us to understand how and why we got here), and discuss key steps required to rebuild the national values system.”

It noted that a significant objective of the webinar was to galvanise and energise citizens and policy makers, at all levels, to take a collective action regarding the development of a national values system; which would culminate in the proposition of a Bill to the National Assembly, policy formulation, and the development of “an implementation plan that is also linked to our system for reward and national honours.”

The statement added, “Our Special Guest of Honour is Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd) GCFR. Prof. Yemi Osinbajo GCON, SAN, Vice President of The Federal Republic of Nigeria, will deliver the keynote address.

“We have also invited the following speakers and panelists: Dr. Ahmad Lawan CON, President of the Senate, Dr. Christopher Kolade CON (and NLI Patron), Mr. Olusegun O. Aganga CON, Prof. Wale Adebanwi, Dr. Joe Abah, Mrs. Ibukun Awosika, Mr. John Momoh, Mallam Bashir Yusuf Ibrahim, and Prof. Tunji Olaopa.
