STATUTORY members of the Ekiti State Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress have suspended Governor Kayode Fayemi from the party.

The members announced the governor’s suspension barely 24 hours after a statement by the party suspending the Special Adviser to the President on Politically Matters, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, and 10 others.

The SEC members said, in a statement on Friday that Fayemi was suspended as a result of what they described as “his numerous anti-party activities, especially his role in the recently concluded governorship election in Edo State, which is contrary to the provisions of Article 21 (A) (ii) of the APC Constitution.”

They also alleged that the Ekiti Governor hosted former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, of the Peoples Democratic Party, five days before the Governorship Election in Edo state, adding that the meeting was to plan a coup against the victory of the APC candidate in Edo.

They accused the governor of playing a major role in the governorship election that produced Governor Seyi Makinde in Oyo State, by supporting him against the APC candidate.

The members also suspended the state Chairman of the party, Paul Omotosho, and other executives, saying they were products of what they called Fayemi’s undemocratic conduct.

Signatories to the statement include: Senator Tony Adeniyi, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, Senator Dayo Adeyeye, former House of Representatives members Bimbo Daramola, Hon Robinson Ajiboye, Hon Oyetunji Ojo, former Speaker Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon. Adewale Omirin and Hon. Femi Adeleye.

The statement, titled, “Re: Dr. Fayemi’s Anti-party Activities”, said Senator Adeniyi was appointed as the SEC acting
chairman owing to the “absence of direction from the National Body”.

According to them, he is “the only one thus capable to call the SEC meeting as duly required by the constitution.”
