AN Osogbo Magistrate’s Court in Osun State has sentenced a 19- year-old boy, Henry Mohammed, to 16 months imprisonment for allegedly stealing a phone.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector Elisha Olusegun, told the court that the boy committed the offence on August 22, 2020 at about 5:00pm, at Railway Line, behind First Bank, Aregbe, Osogbo.

He disclosed that the convict did unlawfully enter into a shop and stole one Infinix Hot 8 phone, valued at N37,000, property of one Albert Titilayo.

Olusegun explained that the convict went to the complainant’s shop to buy a cloth, which he paid for. Henry was said to have asked the complainant to bring another cloth for him inside the shop, but before the cloth seller could come out, Henry was said to have stolen her phone.

The convict pleaded guilty to the allegation preferred against him by the police.

Defence Counsel, Adepoju Kehinde, prayed the court to temper justice with mercy, adding that he was a first offender.

In his ruling, Magistrate Isola Omisade sentenced the convict to 16 months imprisonment at the Ilesa Correctional Center without an option of fine.
