PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has finally endorsed Osagie Ize-Iyamu as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the Edo State Governorship Election slated for September 19, 2020.
Buhari’s endorsement of Ize-Iyamu, after weeks of perceived uncertainty, was disclosed by the Chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee, Mai Malla Buni, on Friday.
Buni, who spoke to State House correspondents, said President Buhari presented the APC flag to Ize-Iyamu, during a meeting at the Presidential Villa, in Abuja.
Ize-Iyamu, who is currently at the centre of a power play in the Edo State House of Assembly, backed by the former National Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole, however, denied reports that a factional Speaker that emerged in Edo emerged in his house.
He said, contrary to reports, the members of the state House of Assembly did not meet in his house to elect the Speaker.
Ize-Iyamu has since congratulated the factional Speaker, Victor Edoror, saying his emergence was a victory for Edo State and all the constituencies that had been denied representation.
The Chairman of the Campaign Council for the Edo State Governorship election, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State, has, however, said Ize-Iyamu will be contesting with a governor that has failed woefully.
He said Governor Godwin Obaseki was a liability to the Peoples Democratic Party, noting that the election would be a smooth sail for APC.
