First lawyer from Northern Nigeria, Abdulrasaq, dies at 93

THE father of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq of Kwara State, Abdulganiyu Abdulrasaq, is dead.

He died in the early hours of Saturday at the age of 93, according to the family.

Born in 1927, late Abdulrasaq, who was reputed as the first Nigerian lawyer from the North, was also former Nigeria’s Ambassador to Cote d’Ivoire and the first Kwara Commissioner of Finance upon the creation of the state in 1967.

The deceased, who was Mutawali of Ilorin and Tafida of Zazzau in Zaria, Kaduna State, was also the former Chairman of the Nigerian Body of Benchers.

He is survived by his 90-year-old wife, Raliat AbdulRazaq, children, including Governor AbdulRahman, and grandchildren.

Burial arrangements would be made public shortly, the family said.
