The suspended Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, has been released from detention.

His release is coming a day after the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, advised his lawyers to redirect his bail application to the Presidential Panel investigating the activities of the Commission under his watch.

Magu, who was released on Wednesday evening, had been in detention since he was arrested last Monday by security operatives and made to face the Ayo Salami-led presidential panel.

The panel is investigating allegations of corruption and insubordination leveled against him by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.

Magu’s lawyers have also described the allegations as reported in the media as trumped-up allegations cooked up to damage his image.
