The first half of this year has been great for a few artistes. Folarin Falana, who is well known as Falz The Bahd Guy in showbiz, is one of them.
Some days ago, the lawyer-turned-musician won the BET International Best New Act award for 2016. He had, earlier in March, received the Best Actor in a Comedy award for his role as Segun in ‘Jenifa’s Diary’ at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
Falz, who had a brief conversation with our correspondent, couldn’t hide his excitement while speaking on his recent BET award.
He said, “Though I worked hard for it, I was so happy that my works are being recognised. Winning BET New Act was a big one for me.”
The son of the renowned Nigerian human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, admitted that he didn’t see it coming even though he was optimistic of winning.
“Everyone went there with the hope that they would win, but I would be telling lies if I tell you that I was 100 per cent confident of winning it. Everyone who was nominated deserved it. I was just praying for the best and God answered my prayer.”
While noting that the awards showed his level of success in showbiz, the host of the MTV Bigger Friday Show, explained that this year had been good for him so far.
“I feel good. I released my second official album (Stories That Touch) towards the end of last year. Most of the stuffs I have released this year are from the album or related to it. The awards (AMVCA and BET) just showed that Falz has attained some level of success. Hopefully, the second half of the year would be better than the first.
“It has been much work really; I’m much busier now. I just try as much as possible to balance things and manage my time well. I thank God I’m doing well,” Falz stated.
For the BET award, Falz was nominated alongside Emtee from South Africa, MHD from France, Tkay Maidza from Australia, and WSTRN and Section Boyz from the United Kingdom.
