A hawker attempting to escape from the officials of the Kick Against Indiscipline around Maryland, along Ikorodu Road in Lagos, was on Wednesday crushed by a BRT vehicle.
The young hawker who was one of those being chased by the KAI officials for violating the law around the Maryland Bridge, reportedly died when he was knocked down by the BRT.
Eye witnesses said in a bid to escape arrest by the KAI officials, the hawker ran into the incoming BRT which crushed him to death on the spot.
Angry motorists and area boys immediately descended on the BRT with sticks and stones immediately to protest the incident.
The situation was, however, quickly put under control by policemen and soldiers who cordoned off the area.
