Some sections of the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja were on Monday razed by fire, with properties worth millions of naira getting destroyed in the process.
The inferno, which started at about 5am, completely razed rooms 270, 271, 273, Osun Hall, the entire computer section of the banquet hall and Harold Kitchen.

According to a source, staff of the hotel were said to have made efforts to put out the fire but it was beyond what they could address.
The General Manager of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Michael Akindele, confirmed the incident. He however saidno life was lost.
He stated that the agency was alerted of the incident through the Lagos state emergency numbers 767/112.
According to him, “This prompted the quick response of the Emergency Response Team of LASEMA and other stakeholders, including the Lagos State Fire Service, Lagos State Ambulance Service, and the Nigeria Police Force to the scene of the incident.”
Though the ERT had yet to ascertain the cause of the inferno, our source said the inferno may have been caused by a power surge from a part of the banquet section in the banquet hall of the hotel.
The source stated that the Lagos State Fire Service from Alausa Station and Ikeja were able to contain the fire from spreading to adjoining structures within the hotel complex.
Akindele said that structures very close to the hotel such as Harold Building and all other buildings in the compound were salvaged.

He said that the appropriate agencies would conduct proper investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire.
He encouraged companies and property owners to ensure they put in place Emergency Response Plans and safety precautions to avert fire incidents.‎
