Robbery gang demands ransom to spare baby’s life during operation

A woman who was reportedly attacked by a daredevil armed bandits during an operation said that her attackers threatened to kill her newborn baby if she failed to hand her money to them.
The hoodlums were said to have hijacked her baby during a robbery operation on Adeyemi Street, Ajegunle area of Lagos State.
It was gathered that the bandits, numbering about 70, dispossessed their victims of items such as cash, jewelry and mobile telephone sets during the attack.
One of the robbers was reported to have threatened to kill the baby on the grounds that the nursing mother, identified as Biliki, failed to surrender her money and other valuables quickly to them.
Biliki said, “The armed robbers would have butchered my only baby. What would I have been telling people today? They collected N8,000 from me to save my baby.”
Another victim, Martins Eke, was not so lucky as he sustained a matchet cut on the head during a robbery attack despite the fact that he surrendered his money to the robbers.
He said, “I was returning from work and was close to my residence when the bad boys suddenly appeared with cutlasses and guns. They attacked from every angle. When they threatened to kill me I pleaded that they should spare my life.
“I handed the N12, 500 on me with two handsets to them. One of them came from behind and hit me with the cutlass. When they saw that I was soaked with blood they took to their heels.”
