Men of the Lagos State Police Command have arraigned a 37-year-old man, Tijani Rasak, at an Apapa Magistrate court, Lagos State, for reportedly beating a Police Corporal, Luka Friday, while trying to effect his arrest over an allegation of polluting the neighbourhood with refuse.
Rasak was brought to the court by Inspector Michael Odugbo attached to Layeni Police Station.
The prosecutor, Inspector Ben Aigbokhan, said a three-count-charge was prepared against him.
The charge stated that Rasak, at 4.30pm at Number 216, Ojo Road, Ajegunle, Apapa, caused a breach of peace in a public place by refusing to pack dirts.
The offence, according to the charge, is punishable under Section 168 (D) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
The second count charge read that Rasak “did assault Corporal Luka Friday with intent to resist lawful arrest and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 174 (D) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
He was also accused of assaulting Mr Friday by hitting him with a blow on his mouth and injuring the policeman, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 173 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria,
2015.
The accused person pleaded not guilty to all charges prefered against him.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Joy Ugbomoiko, granted bail to the accused person in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties with evidence of employment and verifiable addresses.
