Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State has advised the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress to devise a means of diversifying the training of workers in new spheres for creativity and higher
reward.
Ishaku gave the advise in Jalingo, the state capital, recently, during the official inauguration of the ultra modern state Secretariat Complex of the NLC in
Jalingo.
The governor, who said the relationship between the state government and workers in Taraba was cordial, explained that his administration initiated a housing estate scheme so as to give civil servants in the state a sense of belonging.
He added that since he came on board as the chief executive of the state, he had been sympathetic to the course of workers, noting that 90 percent of Tarabans relied on government
work.
The National President of NLC, Comrade Ayuba Waba, commended the Taraba State Council of the NLC for raising the edifice, saying it was a demonstration of confidence in the
NLC.
Waba reiterated the commitment of the NLC in defending the rights of workers, saying workers did not constitute a liability to the government but were partners in progress.
According to him, the organised labour has pleaded with critical stakeholders and has also engaged the Governors Forum on the need to ensure the implementation of the N30,000
minimum wage.
The Taraba State chairman of the NLC, Rev. Peter Gambo, who said the secretariat complex became a reality through efforts of the late Taraba governor, Danbaba Suntai, commended Governor Ishaku for contributing to the completion of the
edifice. Highlights of the occasion included presentation of awards of excellence to the NLC President, Comrade Ayuba Waba and Governor Ishaku.
