Ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in Ogun State, Ijebu indegenes have assured the governorship candidate of Allied People’s Movement, Adekunle Akinlade, of massive support towards his victory.

The people spoke during a campaign rally at Okun-Owa area of the state recently.

Among the communities that threw their weights behind Akinlade are Okun – Owa, Odolowu, Ijesa – Ijebu, Araromi Ake and Erigbin in Odogbolu Local Government Area.

Speaking on behalf of the communities, Asiwaju Sina Ogunbambo, said Akinlade being a candidate from Yewa stood the chance of winning the coming election.

He said, “Hon Adekunle Akinlade, be rest assured that we shall massively vote for you. The mandate we will give you will cut across political parties, non politicians, age groups, farmers, artisans, traders etc.

“We have told our people to guard jealousy their PVC (voters card) and use it to vote for the party that has our staple food, gari which is a product of cassava as its logo. During the last election, Odogbolu Local Government Area was one of the few that won the election for Governor Ibikunle Amosun. We are fully prepared to perform better this time around.

“On behalf of the good people of Ward 3, Odogbolu Local Government; comprising of Okun – Owa, Odolowu, Ijesa – Ijebu, Araromi Ake, Erigbin and every other community in Odogbolu Local Government; i want to heartily welcome you to your hometown, Okun – Owa.

“It gladdens our hearts that our illustrious brother-in – law is the one aspiring for the most exalted office in Ogun State and by the power of Almighty God and the overwhelming mandate of our electorates in Ogun State, it shall become a reality.

“Apart from the fact that you are our in – law, we the Ijebu people from Ogun East Senatorial District, owe you and the good people of Yewa in Ogun West Senatorial District of Ogun State a depth of gratitude and obligation. The firm support of Yewa people at the governorship primaries of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) made it possible for late Chief Olabisi Onabanjo to emerge the governorship candidate after a keenly contested primary with late Chief Soji Odunjo. This single act is for the records as it was what led to the Ijebus producing the first democraticaly elected governor of Ogun State in 1979.

“The Egba and Remo people have also occupied this office and equity fairness and justice demands that the Yewa people gets the same opportunity.

“The peace, unity and progress we are enjoying in our country is due to efforts of patriots like your father. Your emergence as the governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement is a divine mandate. Within one month, it has become a household name with pervasive influence. The voice of the people is the voice of God”.
