The Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State has said that President Muhammadu Buhari’s failure to sack the Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, on the leaked audio tape indicates his desperation to win the coming presidential election.
Recall that the minister was said to have criticised the government of Buhari in an audio clip posted on Twitter by a former aide to ex-president Good Luck Jonathan, Reno Omokiri.
Amaechi was quoted in the audio tape to have said that the economy was in a bad shape, among other things.
In an exclusive interview with our correspondent in Abeokuta, the state Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Alhaji Semiu Sodipo, said Buhari should have removed Amaechi as a minister for lack of loyalty and decorum.
According to him, Buhari’s disposition to Amaechi’s conduct is unrealistic and a clear sign of desperation to continue to rule at all costs. Sodipo predicted that the President would dump Amaechi, his Minister of Power, Works and Housing counterpart, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), as well as the All Progressives Congress Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, after the 2019 election.
He said, “He (Buhari) can’t sack anybody now; he will drop all of them (Fashola, Amaechi and Tinubu) if he wins the election. If he wins, Amaechi will not come back again. He is just keeping them because of the election.
“The President is desperate and that is the nature of somebody that is losing grounds. The President will not want to sack Amaechi because he is desperate to win the election. He (Amaechi) should go and resign if he thinks he is so bitter about Buhari’s government instead of talking bad of him.”
According to him, the crises in the APC at the federal and state levels will pave the way for victory for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, in the coming election.
