AYO ESAN, ABUJA
National Assembly workers on Monday began an industrial action which if not called off may affect the presentation of the 2019 budget to the joint sitting of the National Assembly scheduled for Wednesday by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The strike action has paralyzed and grounded the activities of the National Assembly.
The staff, under the aegis of Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, PASAN, had threatened to embark on a four-day strike.
When The Point visited the National Assembly Monday morning, the workers were chanting “No pay, no sitting” “No pay, no passing of bills.”
It was gathered that the protesting workers had stormed the National Assembly in the early hours of Monday and were seen blocking all the entrances into the complex.
They have also cut off essential services like power and water supply; thereby crippling any form of activity within the premises.
It would be recalled that the aggrieved workers had two weeks ago shutdown the National Assembly and they were only pacified by Principal Officers of the National Assembly who promised to look into their complaints.
