A non-governmental educational organisation, Royalty Edu-research and Consultancy, has awarded prizes to the winners of its maiden edition of essay and quiz competition involving teachers and students.
The competition was in four categories: the Teachers Essay Award, the spelling bee and phonology quiz for primary pupils, the junior secondary quiz and the senior secondary quiz award.
Opening the maiden edition of the competition, the Founder, Mrs. Eyitosho Esther Abe, disclosed that the purpose of the phonology quiz was to bring back the practical aspect of phonetics in language and the theoretical aspect without the normal problems faced by teachers and students.
She said, “The initiative of the students’ phonology competition is to take note of problems still faced by teachers and learners of phonology as it pertains Graphology and Phonology. We hope to marry them together in a fun way as against the usual boring hide and seek jesting situation we find ourselves in during the class in schools.
“I am sure everyone, no matter how little, will take home something new today. We intend to expose the gap between graphology and phonology and advocate for the return of practical oral English test while not undermining the importance of the theoretical aspect because they go hand in hand for the benefit of both teachers and learners of the
subject.”
Taking home the prize out of about 10 schools in the finals of the three stages for students was the NOWA Primary and Secondary School, Lagos.
In the spelling bee and phonology quiz for the primary school, NOWA beat the remaining schools and likewise in the other category for the junior and senior secondary school quiz.
The Nigerian Navy Primary School and Jerry Kay Schools came second and third, respectively, in the competition.
“Less than 10schools participated in the REACCA event but at the end, NOWA Primary and Secondary School came first followed by the Nigerian Navy Primary School and in the third place came Jerry Kay schools,” Eyitosho
said.
The team honoured the winners of the students’ competition with prizes and awards. Also the teachers’ essay competition, which was on the topic “Checking the challenges of teachers in the 21st century” was won by Mrs. Nneji Lisa.
“Mrs. Nneji Lisa won the maiden edition of the Teacher Essay Award, TEA 2018,” she
disclosed.
She further noted that the essay competition was a research that would identify the problems of the teachers and proffer
solutions.
“The essay topic was majored on the challenges teachers face in the 21st century so as to delve into issues teachers face and work towards proffering solutions to them. This should help the government in her strategic move towards alleviating such issues,” she said.
