Police detectives in Ogun State have launched a fresh manhunt for two male high school friends, Allen Thompson and Akinyemi Kayode, who were caught in a homosexual act some months ago at a secluded hotel in the Lambe area of the state.
The police launched a fresh investigation into the case involving both Thompson and Kayode following renewed efforts by the force to check the rising wave of the illicit sexual act in the state, which also led to the recent arrest of two other men, Ademola Adekunle and Okon Bassey, by the police at Onipanu in the Sango area of the state, for the same offence.
Already, the police have vowed that none of the offenders would escape prosecution.
Our correspondent gathered that with the latest arrest of the two men and others alleged to have been engaged in homosexual act, the police authorities decided to reopen the case involving both Thompson and Kayode, who escaped from custody after their arrest sometime last year.
Police detectives, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that investigation had yet to be concluded in the case involving the two male high school friends, Thompson and Kayode.
The two men were almost lynched by a mob, when they were caught by a female service personnel in the hotel, who raised the alarm, if not for the timely intervention of the police.
Our correspondent learnt from some policemen that investigation into the matter had been reopened and detective had once again been set on the trail of both Thompson and Kayode.
“We are on top of the matter. We have reopened their case, we are still investigating,“ an officer, who pleaded anonymity, said.
The two fleeing suspects were initially caught for homosexual act, but they dramatically escaped from police custody.
The lid over the illicit affair between Thompson and Kayode was ostensibly blown open by a room service personnel attending to them at the back street hotel.
It was learnt that on finding the two men in the act, the female room service personnel, simply identified as Funmilayo, “Immediately rushed out to alert her colleagues on what she had seen. The development was said to have attracted a large crowd, who berated and threatened the men for their strange and illicit attitude. The men were almost lynched, but for the quick intervention of patrol police officers, who rescued the two male lovers.
“It was their timely intervention that prevented a mob action and jungle justice on the suspects.
The suspects were arrested and taken away supposedly for interrogation by the detectives who intervened.”
Thompson was said to have confessed to committing the illicit act, saying that he had also been sleeping with a young man in his church.
“Both men (Thompson and Kayode) confessed to have begun their illicit sexual relationship many years back in their high school days,” a police source further
said.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that it’s a criminal offence for a man to engage in sexual act with another man.
Oyeyemi, a deputy superintendent of police, added that anyone caught in such an act would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
“The relevant sections of the law are there and we are always ready to invoke the sections against whoever that slaps the law in the face,”
he said.
Speaking on the fleeing suspects, the police spokesman stressed that both Thompson and Kayode “can only run, but have no hiding place. We shall get
them.”
