The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Oba Adedodun Gbadebo, has explained his recent visit to President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja in company with Governor Ibikunle Amosun.
Oba Gbadebo said that his visit to Buhari was misconstrued as one aimed at persuading the President to wade into the crisis rocking the state chapter of the ruling All Progressives
Congress.
Recall that a parallel governorship primary elections were held in the state, which produced Hon. Adekunle Akinlade and the oil magnate, Prince Dapo Abiodun, as the governorship candidates of the party by rival factions.
Alake, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Chief Lai Labode, said that he visited Buhari to strengthen the relationship existing between the President and Governor Ibikunle
Amosun.
The idea of canvassing for somebody to become the governor is not true at all
The monarch said he did not visit Buhari in company with Amosun and others in order to persuade the President to pick the governor’s anointed candidate, Akinlade, as the governorship candidate of the APC in Ogun State as being speculated.
He noted that his status as a royal father did not permit him to meddle in political and partisan
matters.
The traditional ruler said that he was aware that the governor’s relationship with the President was not as cordial as it used to be and, therefore, the need for him to wade into the matter and make the relationship better than before arose.
He said, “The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland went to Abuja to see the President but the idea of canvassing for somebody to become the governor of the state is not true at all. Kabiesi Alake went to Abuja to ensure that the cordiality that existed between the Federal Government headed by President Buhari and the Ogun State Government headed by Amosun, should be more cordial and that is what exactly he went to do.
“If you listen to NTA Network, the Adviser to Buhari, Femi Adesina, said it emphatically that it was Buhari and Alake and two others that went inside while Amosun sat down and while Adesina was saying that nobody knew what was said because there was no communique, either from Alake or President Buhari.”
