The Ebonyi State Government has signed an agreement with an automobile company, Emmanuel Motors, for the procurement of 70 vehicles for the police, Army, Department of State Services, the Civil Defence and other security agents in the state, including the Neighbourhood
Watch.

Speaking at the Exco Chambers of the Government House, Abakaliki, during the signing of the agreement, Governor Dave Umahi said each of the seventy vehicles would cost N12.11million while the total cost of the whole vehicles is N847, 700, 000.

He disclosed that the payment for the vehicles would be completed on or before the end of March next year.

These 70 units of vehicles should be able to assist the police, the SSS, the Army, the Civil Defence and our own Neighbourhood Watch Security to increase their activities in the security watch

The governor said the vehicles would enable the security agencies to increase their
activities in the state security watch as the yuletide approaches.

Umahi said, “The purchase of 70 units of Hilux vans for our security agencies in Ebonyi State, which is costing N12.11 million. That’s brand new one, don’t think it is tokunbo. It is a brand new and it is also inclusive of 11 per cent taxes, which will be deducted.

“So, I think this is a good business. So, we have a commitment of N847, 700,000, which we are to pay three times. The first one is on completion of the supply; we are to pay N447, 700. End of January, we will pay N200million; then end of March, we will pay another N200million.

“However, we hate to owe. If we are able to get this money before the end of December, we will be able to pay.

“These 70 units of vehicles should be able to assist the police, the SSS, the Army, the Civil Defence and our own Neighbourhood Watch Security to increase their activities in the security watch, especially as we approach the Christmas and the new year and, of course, the
elections.”
