Policemen attached to the Apapa PoliceStation have arrested two suspects for allegedly stealing the house and car keys as well as the academic certificates of a serving Assistant Superintendent of Police, Prince Inyang.
The suspects, 25-year-old Amaechi Ntaka and Lawal Idris, 26, also allegedly stole Inyang’s police identity card, his uniform and his Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, Post-Graduate Diploma, National Certificate of Education and Senior School Certificate Examination certificates.
Other items the suspects also allegedly stole from the police officer include an IPAD , a Techno phone, passport photographs, original copies of his certificate of State of Origin and age declaration as well as the sum of six thousand and one hundred Naira (N6,100) cash.
The suspects also allegedly stole Inyang’s police identity card, his uniform and his Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, Post-Graduate Diploma, National Certificate of Education and Senior School Certificate Examination certificates
In an affidavit sworn to at the Magistrates’ Court Registry, Apapa, ASP Inyang also included his son’s (Uko Atta Inyang) SSCE certificate and his certificate of origin from the Calabar Municipal Authority as part of the items the suspects allegedly stole.
Woman Inspector Margaret Ezenwaka attached to the Apapa Police Station brought the two accused persons to the Apapa Magistrates’ Court over the alleged offences.
Police Prosecutor, Inspector Bassey Sunday, told the court that the two suspects committed the offence at Savanna Hotel situated at Bornu Crescent, Apapa, Lagos.
Sunday said the offences the accused persons committed were punishable under Sections 411 and 314 (2) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
According to the first charge, the accused persons “did conspire among themselves to commit felony to wit stealing.
In the second count charge the prosecutor said the suspects “did steal one IPAD Phone and bag containing police ID Card, police uniform, Toyota car key, house key, Bsc., Msc., PGD,NCE, SSCE certification, original State of Origin, age declaration and the sum of Six thousand and one hundred Naira (N6,100.00) cash, property of one ASP Prince Inyang.”
The two accused persons pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.S. Akubule, granted the two accused persons bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with verifiable sureties.
