Police arraign man, 38, over church generator’s theft

The police in Ota, Ogun State have arraigned a 38-year-old man, Afeez Owolabi, before an Ota Magistrates ‘ Court over the theft of an Imex generator valued at N150,000, belonging to a church.

Owolabi, whose address was not provided, was arraigned on a two-count charge of stealing and burglary.

The Prosecutor, Sergeant Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on September 15 at about 12.30am at Christ Gospel Witness Church, Atan,
Ota.

Gbesi said that Owolabi was caught by security guards after breaking into the church to steal the Imex
generator.

The prosecutor added that the offences contravened Sections 390(9) and 411 of the Criminal Code, Volume 1 Laws of Ogun State,
2006.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty and the Senior Magistrate, Mr. G.E. Akan, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Akan said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed.

The magistrate also ordered that the sureties must show evidence of tax payment to the Ogun State Government.

The magistrate adjourned the matter till October 15 for further
hearing.
