Many residents of the state vehemently condemned the high rate of the incidence of rape and defilement in the state.
They described the perpetrators as “evil people.”
They also strongly condemned incest, saying a situation where men now have sexual intercourse with their own daughters is an abomination before man and God.
They contended that it was unheard of that a man would have sexual intercourse with his own daughter.
“A man who threw decorum in the wind and descends so low as to have carnal knowledge of a minor is evil but, when a man have carnal knowledge of his own daughter such person is not worthy to live,” said a resident, Kingsley Okpara.
The Lagos State Commissioner of police, Mr. Imohimi Edgal, described such an incestuous act as illegal and a sinful act.
The police in Lagos have arrested and paraded quite a number of men for allegedly having carnal knowledge of their own daughters.
A psychologist, Adejuwon Adebanjo, and a consultant psychiatrist, Peter Onyeukwu, were of the view that men found in such incestuous act had become mentally deranged.
According to Adebanjo, “When a man begins to look at the breasts and buttocks of his small daughter with incestuous motive, and temptation sets in, instead of controlling himself and his libido, he decides to explore because you are in control of her, such a man is deranged and sick in the head.
“After making love to your own daughter, the man must lose the respect he had been enjoying from her. Such a man has destroyed the good life of his daughter. Such act can make the child a wayward person. It can push the girl into prostitution. It can make the girl run away from home, which was a safe haven before for her. What will the man call his daughter? Darling? Sweetie? It is unimaginable. What will the wife say? How will she feel that her own husband is having carnal knowledge of their daughter?
“Such act, when detected by another person, will definitely destroy the home. The wife will move out from the house. The wife out of provocation can even do something very nasty – like committing suicide or killing the man. It beats my imagination when I hear about such story,” he said.
Shaking his head with pity as he explained, the consultant psychiatrist, Onyeukwu, said, “It is abnormal for a man to have carnal knowledge of his own daughter. That’s an action that can only be exhibited by a deranged man. Such a man is not mentally balanced. He is a psychiatric case and should go for treatment. A daughter can even undress in the presence of the father and the father won’t even notice anything.
“A man should not be thinking about how this my daughter will be like if I make love to her. A mentally balanced man will not even think about that. You think about your wife. If you want to flirt with single women, is it not better than your own daughter? You can even go to hotels and patronise prostitutes. Any man that makes love to his daughter is a madman and needs counseling and treatment,” he
advised.
Meanwhile, the police in Lagos paraded two men recently for allegedly committing such heinous crime.
Among them was Olawale Ibitoye, 45, who had a carnal knowledge of his own 14 -year- old daughter, Raliat, a secondary school drop-out.
The suspect confessed to have been carrying out such incestuous act with his daughter since she was just eight years old, at his residence, in Ketu.
The daughter became pregnant but unfortunately during labour she could not push enough. She was later moved to a trado- medical home, where the girl confessed that her father was making love to her before he forced her to marry his friend, Moses Okurukpe, a farmer and motorcyclist, just to cover up his illicit act.
The incestuous father allegedly collected only N5,000 from his friend, Okurukpe. Okurukpe said he never knew that Raliat was 13 years, when he took her as a wife. At the end, the survivor, Raliat could not deliver the baby naturally. And the baby died.
When our correspondent asked Ibitoye how he felt while making love to his daughter, he shook his head and said, “Please, it is the handiwork of the devil. I like my daughter so much but I didn’t know what came over me.”
When asked if he was not enjoying the fun with his daughter, he said, “Yes, I enjoyed it then, but now I’m regretting.”
In a related development, a 60-year-old man, Ashiru Amusat, was arrested for defiling his 12-year-old daughter,
Boluwafe.
The minor, Boluwafe, had to run away from his father’s apartment, begging a woman to accommodate her because her father would not allow her to rest as he would always want to make love to her.
The woman had to inform the police. The septuagenarian father was arrested and
paraded.
