PPA leaders want to
kill me – Abia SSG
The Secretary to the Abia State Government,
Dr. Eme Okoro, has petitioned
the Inspector General of Police over
alleged attempts by the Progressive Peoples
Alliance to assassinate him.
Okoro made the assertion while speaking
to The Point in his office in Umuahia, the state
capital, adding that the attempts occurred in
his country home, Ozuitem, and in Bende.
He alleged that the first attempt occurred
last Friday when armed men arrived at the
community in a Sienna Toyota car at about
2am and started shooting indiscriminately at
his house.
The SSG said the leadership of the PPA
had arranged to have his house in the community
completely destroyed by shattering
the windows, rooms and television sets with
bullets.
“Apparently, this occurred on the day Governor Okezie Ikpeazu flagged-off two roads
in Abia North District and there was the basic
assumption that I was sleeping in the house,”
he said.
According to him, the second attempt was
on the eve of the Abia North Senatorial District
Election rerun, when he went to the police in
Bende to ascertain their readiness for the poll.
He said, while he and the member representing
Bende South State Constituency in the
state House of Assembly, Sir Cosmas Maduka,
were conferring them, suspected PPA thugs
attacked the venue.
The SSG narrated that it took the intervention
of soldiers to rescue them from the assailants
after they had broken the windscreens
and slashed the tyres of all the vehicles in their
entourage.
He added that, during the election, the same
group prevented over 2000 voters in the community
from casting their ballot by moving
their polling units from their recognised areas
to other places.
