Two men, nursing mother remanded in prison for stealing N150, 000

The police in Lagos have arrested two men and a woman for allegedly stealing N150, 000 in a provision shop.

The accused persons, Abdulfatah Abdulsalam, 23;  Abeeb Afolabi, 24, and a 21-year-old nursing mother, Monsurat Toyin, were dragged before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

They were accused of stealing the money belonging to one Friday Agbadu of Olowojeunjeje Street, Ajegunle, in Lagos State.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Donjor Perezi, told the court that the offences committed by the accused persons were contrary to and punishable under Sections 412 and 280 (b) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.

According to the charges, the accused persons, “did conspire among yourselves and thereby committed an offence.”

In the second count charge, the three accused persons “did willfully and unlawfully stole about N150, 000 cash belonging to one Friday Agbadu (m).”

But the three accused persons pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Erinle, granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N80, 000 each with two sureties in like sum, and who must be their blood relations.

The accused persons could, however, not meet the bail conditions and were remanded in prison.

The woman was said to have gone into the prison with her one-year-old baby.

The magistrate adjourned the case till August 19, 2018.
