Police arraign man, 45, for stealing 26 car batteries

The police in Lagos have arraigned a 45-year-old man, Ikechukwu Isife, before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing 26 car batteries.

The accused person, Isife, was said to have stolen the Diehard batteries at ABC Park, along Vanguard Road, Kirikiri Town, Apapa,
Lagos.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, brought a three-count charge against the accused.

According to the prosecutor, the accused and others conspired “to commit felony to wit stealing  and thereby committed an offence  punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria,
2015.”

In the 2nd count charge, Ekpo said the accused person “did steal twenty six (26) car batteries valued five hundred and forty thousand Naira (N540,000.00) property of Sunny Spaco Auto Limited  and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 287  of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

The accused was also charged for stealing, “one Diehard car battery valued at twenty thousand Naira (N20, 000.00) property of Sunny Spaco Auto Limited and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria,
2015.”

The accused person pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge.

Magistrate N.A. Layeni, who presided over the case at the Kirikiri Magistrate’s court, granted the accused person bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety with a proof of tax payment.
