Peoples Democratic Party presidential aspirant and former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to investigate the siege by security agents on the official residences of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.

Turaki made the call at the PDP secretariat in Awka, Anambra State, while speaking with party leaders, delegates and other members as part of his nationwide consultations, ahead of his party’s national convention.

The presidential aspirant, who said that he did not want to believe that the Presidency had a hand in the matter, advised that any person found wanting in the unfortunate incident should be dealt with appropriately.

He said the PDP would fight to ensure that the country’s hard earned democracy was not truncated, noting that defections by APC senators and members of the House of Representatives would strengthen the PDP at the National Assembly.

He added that there was hope for a better and stable country for Nigerians, when the PDP wins in 2019.

He further said the defections had confirmed to the international community that Nigerians could take their destiny in their own hands at critical moments.

Turaki assured the defectors, and those still to come, of a level playing field to pursue their legitimate aspirations, noting that after all they were members of the same political family before joining APC, and returning ‘home’ later.

He used the occasion to further reinforce his belief in restructuring.

“This is a pledge I made in my honour. There is no option to restructuring, whether from the perspective of true and fiscal federalism, devolution of power, resource control, or state police,” he declared.

Turaki pledged to set up a committee right from the venue of his inauguration to address the issue of an additional state for the South East, if he gets his party’s mandate and eventually wins the 2019 presidential election.

He also promised that, if elected, his government would take a look at the constitution, in conjunction with the National Assembly and other stakeholders, where necessary.

He noted that the law is supposed to serve the people, and not the people serving the law.
