Man arraigned for attacking victim with plank

The police in Lagos have arraigned a young man before an Apapa, Lagos Magistrate’s Court for attacking his victim with a plank of wood and causing him serious injuries.

The accused person, Chukwuemeka Obiukwu, 19, was said to have injured Chijioke Iwuchukwu on his ankle.

Policemen attached to Layeni Police Station arrested Obiukwu, who allegedly committed the offence at number 15, Ligali Street, Ajegunle,
Lagos.

The Investigating Police Officer, Sgt. Ameh Joseph, brought the accused to court.

The accused person, Obiukwu was arraigned before court 7 in the Apapa Magisterial District for assaulting the complainant, Iwuchukwu.

The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the accused person committed an offence punishable under Section 173 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

Ekpo said that the accused person “did unlawfully assault one Chijioke Iwuchukwu, ‘m,’ by hitting him with a plank on the right ankle, which caused him bodily harm and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 173 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.”

The accused person, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, N.A Layeni, granted the accused person bail in the sum of
N50, 000.
