Access Bank Plc. has emerged winner of the2018 Euromoney awards as “Africa’s Best Bank for Corporate Social Responsibility”.
This prestigious award, according to the bank, was presented in recognition of the its unwavering commitment to embedding sustainability into its core business strategy, as it carried out its business operations.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony which held in London, U.K., last week, Access Bank Chief Financial Officer, Seyi Kumapayi, said the award validated the Bank’s continuous efforts and commitment to the sustainable development of Nigeria’s financial industry.
“Access Bank is honoured to be recognised as Africa’s Best Bank for Corporate Responsibility, This serves as a testament to the Bank’s resolute efforts in financing sustainable economies in the societies in which we operate.
“We believe the net impact of our business activities must be positive to accelerate our drive towards the achievement of the sustainable development goals and the development of a resilient and vibrant economy across Africa,” Kumapayi said.
He added that the award also highlightsed the Bank’s considerable impact in applying global best practices, pioneering and setting standards to foster sustainable development in Africa, noting that Access Bank began its sustainability journey in 2008 and had led various initiatives in line with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development
Goals.
“In 2012, the bank championed the implementation of the Nigerian Sustainable Banking Principles, which have now been adopted nationwide. The Bank was also the first indigenous Nigerian Bank to join 25 leading global banks to develop the Global Sustainability Banking Principles that set out to align the sector with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Climate Agreement”.
