Three men have been charged with defrauding a firm and stealing large sums of money belonging to the organisation.
Operatives of the Area ‘B’ Police Command, Apapa, Lagos, arrested the three persons for alleged conspiracy, fraud and stealing from the company based in Lagos State.
The three accused persons, Murtala Abdul Ahmed, Mark Peter and Felix Onyukwu, were later arraigned by the police in court 4 of the Apapa Magistrates’ Court under the Apapa Magisterial District.
The Prosecutor, Sergeant Kokoye, who slammed the three accused persons with a six-count charge, told the court that they “did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit; obtaining money by false pretence and stealing and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
In the second count charge, the police said the accused persons “did steal 2x20ft containers No. UETU 2539390 and No. UETU 2539903 containing Triple Concentrate, valued at N40million, property of Aim Logistics Limited, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287(5)(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
In the thrid count charge, the police said Murtala Abdulahmed, “with an intent to defraud, did obtain the sum of N370,000 from one Patrick Okonji ‘m’ with the pretence of conveying 2x20ft containers for him from Apapa Lagos to Sagamu, a promise you know to be false and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
The police prosecutor also said in the 4th count charge, that the same Murtala Abdulahmed “did steal the sum of N370,000, property of AIM Logistics Limited, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287(5)(b) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
But the fifth charge read that Felix Onyukwu “did obtain the sum of N718, 000 from Patrick Okonji with the pretence of conveying 2x20ft containers from Apapa Lagos to Sagamu, a promise you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 314(1)(a) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
The last count said Felix Onyukwu “did steal the sum of N718,000 property of AIM Logistics Limited and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287(5)(b) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
The accused persons pleaded not guilty to all the six-count charges brought against them.
The Magistrate, Mr. M.A. Etti, granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N500,000 each. Their surety must include a community leader.
