- He’s a political neophyte, our govt has done so much for the state – Ekiti PDP
The governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party in the forthcoming governorship election in Ekiti, Mr. Segun Adewale, has said neither the All Progressive Congress nor the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the state has the willpower to adequately address the multifarious problems confronting the people of the state.
Adewale, who is a former factional chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the PDP, told our correspondent that both APC and PDP had governed Ekiti State without any recording any meaningful success.
Both parties have failed the people of this state several times; so they don’t have the solution to the people’s problem.
According to him, the ideologies of both parties do not have the solution to the problems confronting Ekiti State.
He, therefore, enjoined the electorate in the state to have a rethink in order to do away with both parties in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
“Both parties have failed the people of this state several times; so they don’t have the solution to the people’s problem. The people need to have a rethink so that they don’t go back into slavery under either of the two parties.
Adewale, however, noted that it was mere propaganda that he would be defeated by the governorship candidates of either the PDP or that of the APC during the election because of the incumbency factor or “federal might.”
The ADP governorship candidate expressed confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission to deliver a credible election in Ekiti.
“This is no longer those years past, when the ruling administrations would have decided the outcome of an election before results were released. And I know that the President, with his efforts to institute democracy in Nigeria and his fight against corruption, will be the last man to interfere in the election,” he said.
Speaking on his participation in the Ekiti governorship race, he said, “My antecedents as a philanthropist are well known in Lagos. I am in this race to change things for the better in Ekiti. The era of stomach infrastructure of the Fayose-led administration has to stop. There is the need for human capital development, which I intend to invest in.”
Adewale also argued that Ekiti was poor by any standard, accusing both the APC and PDP of ruining the state by their inept style of governance.
He specifically blamed the Governor Ayo Fayose-led administration of wasting the resources of the state on unprofitable ventures.
“When the leakages in governance are plugged in Ekiti, there will be enough money to pay salaries and reposition the state as an agricultural hub of the country,” he said.
The ADP governorship candidate said that as an indigene of Ekiti, he had been able to touch many lives in recent times by sinking boreholes in many communities to provide them with potable water.
He added that he had graded several bad rural roads for the use of the residents.
He said the bane of under-development in Ekiti State was “too much theories”, which he said should have been converted to wealth for the good of the people.
Adewale pledged that if elected, he would pay salaries and arrears, engage and employ the youths and continue with the viable projects initiated by the current administration.
He said, “My administration will revive moribund industries in Ekiti and create vocational centres, where youths will acquire the needed skills to become self-reliant.
“My mission will be to make Ekiti known beyond academics.”
Adewale added that the setting up of agro-based industries would help to alleviate the sufferings of the people of the state.
The ADP candidate explained that he left the PDP because whenever it was time for the allocation of political offices, he was usually reminded that he was not from Lagos State.
He said the PDP had failed to give him his fair dues, in spite of his contributions to the party and in his area, Alimosho.
Reacting, the Ekiti State PDP Publicity Secretary, Mr. Jackson Adebayo, described the utterances of the ADP standard bearer as that of a political neophyte.
Adebayo told our correspondent that Ekiti State had witnessed a lot of development under the PDP administration, especially under the administration of Governor Ayodele Fayose.
“You cannot blame Segun Adewale, he is a political neophyte. It you check the record in Ekiti State, you will realise that from 1999 till date, Ekiti State has witnessed so much development under the PDP government, especially under the regime of Governor Ayodele Fayose. Look at some of his success that are being respected across the country, beginning from the first flyover in the state, the Judiciary Complex, the Oja Oba that he created then, and others. If Adewale can say that, then he needs to check himself,” he
said.
