Earlier today, the Ondo State House of Assembly reinstated former Deputy Speaker, Iroju Ogundeji.

Ogundej, was removed on Tuesday during plenary and was immediately replaced with Bimbo Fajolu, representing Ile Oluji/Oke-igbo Constituency.

He was axed after 18 out of 26 lawmakers signed for his removal and the signatures were received by the Speaker of the House, Bamidele Oloyeloogun, during the session.

Ogundeji was among the 18 lawmakers who defected to the ruling party from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, shortly after Governor Rotimi Akeredolu took over power in the state in February 2017.

He was accused of insubordination and disrespect to the office of the speaker.

The Majority Leader, Olugbenga Araoyinbo, who moved the motion for Ogundeji’s reinstatement, cited the intervention of leaders of All Progressives Congress (APC) in and outside the state, including Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and his Ogun counterpart, Ibikunle Amosun.
