Court jails 28-yr-old man 3 months for stealing

An Ikeja, Lagos Chief Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a 28-year-old man, Bidemi Eweje, to three months imprisonment for stealing a handbag containing the sum of N227,300.
The court also ordered Eweje to serve the prison term with hard labour.
Delivering her judgment, Chief Magistrate Y.O Aje-Afunwa, who did not give Eweje any option of fine, ordered the convict to spend the next three months behind bars.
The convict had been standing trial before the court on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing and had pleaded guilty to committing the offences.
In her judgement, Chief Magistrate Aje-Afunwa ordered that the convict be put in prison with hard labour to serve as a deterrent to others who may have criminal intentions.
Eweje was arraigned on April 23, 2018.
According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Peter Nwangwu, the convict committed the offence on March 22, 2018, along Airport Road in Ikeja,
Lagos.
Nwangwu disclosed that the convict stole one brown handbag containing two black purses and N277, 300 cash, belonging to one Ajisafe Funmilayo.
The prosecuting police officer further informed the court that the offence is punishable under Section 278 (1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
