…cautions against sins, while fasting

As Christians all over the world observed Ash Wednesday last week, signaling the commencement of the 40-day Lenten season, Nigerians have been tasked to present the Nigerian situation before God, in prayers.

The Spiritual Father and Chairman of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church Worldwide, Most Rev’d (Dr.) Samuel Adefila Abidoye, who gave the charge in his message delivered at the Church International Headquarters, Galilee Land, Orile-Igbon, Oyo State called on the entire Christians to use the period to seek the face of God and pray fervently for peace to reign in the country.

He called on all, to particularly pray for President Muhammadu Buhari, members of his cabinet, the National Assembly, legislators in various states and other public leaders across the country for God’s guidance, in order to get out of the present mess the country has found itself.

“I think what President Buhari and other leaders in the country need presently is fervent prayers, more than ever before; to seek for divine intervention over the numerous challenges confronting the nation.

“We don’t need a soothsayer to tell us that all is not well with this country for now, but we should have it at the back of our mind that no matter how bad a situation is, it is only prayer that can solve the problem,” the spiritual father remarked.

Prophet Abidoye called on all Nigerians, especially the clerics, to guard against their utterances, especially at this period, in order not to further sow and spread the seed of hatred and division pervading the country.

According to him, “most of the followers in our different churches  respect our views and directives and this is why we need to be very careful in our sermons and other utterances, such that are capable of further tearing the country apart.

But rather, preach peace and oneness among all, no matter our differences. We should see each other as one and should, therefore, run away from anything that can tear the nation apart.”

Prophet Abidoye also called on all to use the period to pray for early and sufficient rainfall this year so as to reap bumper harvest, pointing out that when there is sufficient food at affordable prices, all other problems can be easily taken care of.

While condemning the various killings and wanton destruction of property across  the country which he  attributed to lack of love and absence of the fear of God, the spiritual leader called on all Nigerians to  resfrain from all evils and move closer to God during the Lenten period describing the period as time for total abstinence from sin.
