Again, Timaya, Nigeria lose out on the elusive Grammy award

Probably not many people know that popular singer, Timaya, was nominated at this year’s Grammy awards, which held on Sunday, January 28, 2018.

Admittedly, he was nominated as one of the featured artistes on Avrekedabra, an album nominated in the best reggae album category, but it was a nomination all the same.

His nomination didn’t, however, make much news, probably for the main reason that he didn’t seem to make a noise about it as Wizkid and Davido would have done, and because he’s not trending as much as the two.

But maybe he was smart not to make a noise because the awards had held and he didn’t win. Maybe he was waiting to win and having won, would have been able to lay claim to being Nigeria’s best artiste, better than Davido, Wizkid, D’Banj, 2Baba and all the others winning the international awards like MTV, BET that he’s never even been nominated for.

And with his loss, Nigeria has again lost out on a Nigeria-based artiste winning the Grammy.

Those nominated before him were King Sunny Ade and Femi Anikulapo-Kuti.

Funny enough, his loss is also not making much news, indicating that the singer is not really in the public’s consciousness as he once used to be.

Better luck next time, Tim.
