Industry Nite hosted Shina Peller’s Aquila Records’ golden boy, Airboy, to undoubtedly the most electrifying edition of their weekly event in December 2017, an occasion which also saw the release of his debut body of works, Vibes EP.
Now, Airboy has dropped the video of the Vibes single, and it features excerpts from the December event: https://www.youtube.com/wa tch?v=ZEb9_zhwED4&feature=yout u.be
Directed by Adasa Cookey and Victor Amama for Squareball Media, the video takes us through events building up to the successful event, as well as performances from the event, and especially that special moment when his mum was handed a microphone to pray for him on stage.
Vibes video is generally inspired by Airboy’s music inspiration, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, much like the song itself. It is set against the typical Afrika Shrine background, with real yearning fans and exciting performances on an electrifying night that fans will not forget too soon.
In an Instagram post to promote his Industry Nite event and Vibes EP in December, he wrote, “My love for Fela Anikulapo-Kuti can’t be put in words. Listening to him while growing up planted the love of music in me. The love that has germinated into the artiste that I am today.
“I have come a long way, and still have an even longer way to go. Every step of the way, I have carried Fela along in my heart and will always do.
“My first effort, Vibes EP, drops today. It is named after a song I did particularly in Fela’s memory. The release concert is happening tonight at no other place but Afrika Shrine, also in Fela’s memory. This is also because I’m dedicating it all to the Abami Eda himself as it’s 20 years since he passed on to shwo gratitude for all he has done for me through his music.
“So, as we troop out to party tonight, and as we buy and play the songs on my EP, let’s not forget to remember Fela through it all. #FelaLivesOn.”
Airboy was styled in the video by Adedeji Riliwan Bamidele of StyledByReus and supported on stage by The Kinetics Band and Awanjo Dancers.
The Vibes EP is a 7-tracker, which has the title track itself, Leso, Ayepo Remix ft. Burna Boy, Nawo Nawo, Iyawo, Booty Bounce and Mummy. It’s available for sale on www.aquilarecordsng.com, iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Music Plus, Tecno Boom and other online platforms. The album can also be downloaded by texting 258 to 5900 on MTN.
