Wife of the Senator representing Rivers South East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Mrs. Bariyaah Abe, has empowered 81 widows in the Gokana Local Government Area of the state.
The programme, which is the first part of her pet project, His Worship’s, contributions towards ameliorating the plight of widows, gave out 81 plots of arable farmland to the beneficiaries. It also donated bags of fertilizer to the beneficiaries.
Abe, in her remarks, explained that it had been her desire to alleviate the plight of the downtrodden, especially widows in the area.
She said most of the widows in the country, who she described as Wives of God, had no means of survival and sustenance and, therefore, needed support from well-meaning Nigerians.
“Whatever we can do to improve the lives of these women, even if it’s a cup of water, we should extend the hand of sympathy to them, to ensure their lives are more comfortable for them,” Abe said.
She enjoined the widows not only to produce food items, but also products they could sell to earn money for themselves and others in need.
Abe advised them to pray for the nation, adding that they should also speak to their children to embrace peace across the communities, some of which have been ravaged by communal clashes and crises.
“I want to implore the women, the Wives of God to pray for our country Nigeria, pray for Rivers State and pray for Gokana. God hears our prayers. He hears the prayers of women very quickly. We need peace in Gokana, we need peace in Rivers State. We need peace in Nigeria. Let the killings in Gokana come to an end. Let us talk to our children so that we can live comfortably in our homes. When you have peace in a place, it brings about fast development, but when there’s no peace, you can’t develop your community,” she said.
