…tasks govt on recovery of stolen funds

The Supreme Head and Chairman of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church Worldwide, Most Rev (Dr.) Samuel Abidoye, has said that the much-needed economic growth and development will continue to elude the Nigerian nation unless the Federal Government demonstrates serious commitment in its crusade against corruption.

He also urged the Federal Government to recover stolen funds from all public officials indicted for corruption and to also prosecute them.

Specifically, he said that President Muhammadu Buhari should not stop at the recent sacking of the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Babachir Lawal and ex-director general of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Ayo Oke. The two former public officials, he said, should be prosecuted in accordance with the relevant laws.

The cleric stressed that if they were let off the hook, this would send a wrong signal to others and encourage them to dip their hands in the till.

Abidoye said these while speaking with our correspondent on the church’s National Conference scheduled for November 5 to 12, 2017 at its Galilee Land in Orile-Igbon, Oyo State.

The CSMC head also warned that if the current anti-corruption crusade of the Federal Government failed, the nation’s economy and the ordinary Nigerians would be the worse for it, as they would be at the
receiving end.

He, however, expressed hope that the nation’s economy would be effectively placed on the path of recovery and boom when there was no more room for corrupt political and public office holders to steal from public treasury to satisfy their greed and their selfish interests.

The cleric, therefore, urged President Buhari to take more practical steps to block all the loopholes that were being exploited by corrupt public office holders to perpetrate such heinous crimes against the nation, while ensuring that all those indicted were brought to book.

He restated that corrupt political and public office holders risked the wrath of God, if they did not forsake their crooked ways in time.

Abidoye added that concerted efforts of all citizens had become imperative to give the Buhari administration the much-needed energy and political will to move the nation forward.

The CSMC head, therefore, stressed that every Nigerian must be prepared to give the Federal Government the helping hand in whatever way they could, adding that this would enable the administration to realise its vision for the nation.

The cleric further stated that Nigerians should eschew ethnic, religious and political bigotry and violence by striving to live in peace with one another at all times.

“My message to all Nigerians is that we have been praying for peace and we’ll continue to pray for peace. But remember, nobody is an island. We should be our brother’s keeper; try to help people around you with whatever you have; be it money and every other thing you can afford. This is because God who brought us together has not made a mistake. He wants us to treat one another as brothers. He does not like us to quarrel and kill ourselves. He wants us to live at peace and my
prayer is that Nigerians will continue to live together in peace,” Abidoye added.
