Wilfred Ammeh is a happy man after his NPFL side, Niger Tornadoes sent league champions, Plateau United, packing from the Aiteo Cup championship.
The Ikon Allah Boys were forced to a 2-2 draw by the Tin City side in the Aiteo Cup quarterfinals’ reverse clash at the Rwang Pam Stadium in Jos.
The Minna landlords scored first off the foot of Ibrahim Babawo in the 25th minute, while Isah Hussaini doubled the side’s lead from the penalty spot in the 40th minute to end the half as leaders.
Bature Yaro scored a brace from the penalty spot in the 52nd and 90th minutes to even scores at 2-2 for the Jos side.
However, it was the Minna outfit that progressed to the Aiteo Cup semifinals on 4-2 aggregate, after two unreplied goals win in the first fixture clash in Lokoja.
Ammeh said his side were well-poised and strengthened to go ahead to challenge for the Aiteo Cup podium dance.
“We are excited with the outcome of the Aiteo Cup quarterfinals clash against the league champions, Plateau United.
“The match ended 2-2 in Jos after we had taken a two-goal lead in the first half of the encounter.
“Plateau United came back strongly in the second half to score two goals from the penalty spot to tie the match at 2-2.
“However, do not forget that we had earlier beaten the side 2-0 in Lokoja to progress on 4-2 aggregate.
“The fall of the league champions has somehow given us a new boost to push further for the top prize against FC IfeanyiUbah,” said Ammeh.
