An Osogbo Magistrate’s court, on Wednesday, sentenced a 35-year-old woman, Nafisat Raji, to six months imprisonment for stealing cash and laptop belonging to residents of her area.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Oladoye Joshua, told the court that the accused person committed the offence this month at Fayemi Street, Osogbo, at about 12:30pm.
Presenting the facts of the case, after the accused housewife pleaded guilty to the two count-charge bearing on theft, the prosecutor explained to the court that Nafisat broke into the houses of two residents and stole the items.
Joshua said Nafisat had broken into the house of one Akindele Deborah and stole the sum of N14,500 before she also carted away an HP Pavilion laptop valued at N45,000, property of one Olaboopo Mubarak.
The prosecutor said the offences committed contravened Section 383 and punishable under Section 412 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Volume II, Laws of Osun State, Nigeria, 2003.
Nafisat’s counsel, Okobe Najite,, pleaded with the court to be merciful and temper justice with mercy in sentencing the accused person.
Okobe said the accused, who sobbed in the dock, had realised her mistakes.
The presiding Magistrate, Adejumoke Olowolagba, sentenced the accused person to six months’ imprisonment with an option of N3,000 fine.
