A non-governmental organisation, Health for Life and Development Foundation, based in Zamfara has donated drugs to deworm 10,000 children between the ages of 5 and 15 years in the state.
Inaugurating the exercise at a Quranic school in Gusau, the state capital, the Executive Director of the foundation, Dr. Abubakar Danladi, said that the aim of the programme was to reduce worm-causing diseases among the children.
The director, represented by his Programme Officer, Shuaibu Uba, said diseases like tape worm, round worm and other intestinal diseases usually affect brain.
“The foundation has perfected plans to assist children, especially those at Qur’anic schools through our provision of the drugs for deworming,” he said.
Danladi further said that the programme would also go a long way in complementing government efforts, as children in public schools had already been dewormed by the government.
He also appealed to the proprietors of the selected schools to take the programme in good faith and allow their pupils to take the drugs.
